What We Build While Waiting
Closure of Ford Genk 2012–2014

The work examines the waiting period between the announcement of the Ford Genk factory closure in 2012 and its final shutdown in 2014.  It considers waiting as a productive condition in which collective organization, negotiation, and political imagination could emerge. Through sculpture, video, and screen prints on metal, the project brings together workers’ testimonies, archival materials, and newly produced images that place the story of Ford Genk in dialogue with an urban resistance happened in the same time period in Istanbul. The work understands the closure as a condition from which alternative forms of building, remembering, and acting together become possible, asking what we build while waiting.

The sculpture hosted several lecture performances by the member of trade union who is involved in strikes and interview sessions with former workers.

The video of the lecture performances is shot and edited  by Cem Altinoz
